Kingdom Clash, NFT Strategy on wax

Kingdom Clash – Intro

Kingdom Clash didn’t need to reinvent the wheel, there were previous games of the same genre.
If you’ve played computer games for a while, you are probably familiar with older browser games like OGame, Travian, Imperia online, or a bit newer Age of Fire. Those games were pioneers of MMO gaming, 20 or so years ago (except AOF which was released a bit later, primarily for mobile phones). Yeah, time passes quickly when you’re having fun!

So, why does the team behind Kingdom Clash continue on the road which was already explored, exploited, done, and dusted?
Well, those games were not NFT-s, web3, or play-to-earn projects, and that makes it a quite different ballgame!
Kingdom Clash is the first NFT game that could pull off being called a successor of those fun, multi-million-members projects of old.
If the team manages to finish it in a reasonable time, and they are not so far off, we could again have sleepless nights, ruined marriages, college dropouts, and a flood of newly fired players, all chanting Kingdom Clash, Kingdom Clash!
If you are a newer player and haven’t played a similar game before, let me clear this up for you with one line – it was highly addictive! If you add a play-to-earn in the mix, you see why Kingdom Clash has the potential to restore the old fires.

Will you sack the enemy town before the other player wakes up and reacts? Will his allies intervene and turn your lucrative victory into a costly defeat? Or will your troops make it back on time to repel incoming enemy attacks?
These were some thoughts that occupied a lot of my free time back then, and it seems they will do the same – soon.

Roadmap and prizes in Kingdom Clash

Kingdom Clash has taken the road where the players are given back a percentage of the sales. Season 1 prize pool allocation is 200.000 WAX guaranteed.
100k WAX for leaderboards rewards, and 100k WAX for the winner guild of Season 1.
The team will add 25% from each sale they hold during the season. And if we know they had the last land sale only recently, the prizes could raise even more in the future.

If we take a look at the current roadmap, we can discover that Kingdom Clash is upholding a tight schedule. There is a lot of development going on.
We are currently at phase 3, Land NFT Drop #2, and the PvE is next!
The team is on schedule, with no significant delays so far.

Three playable races of Kingdom Clash

The first thing you should decide in Kingdom Clash, besides the fact of how much are you willing to spend on a project, is race choice. Which troops will be your hand in overtaking the world? Or at least die trying.
Each unit has a different offense, defense, speed, upkeep, carry, and cost values.
There are three playable races for you to choose from, and each one has a bit different playstyle.
Each of those races will be bolstered with a hero unit, which is unavailable at the time of writing this. After all, what kind of an excuse for an army would it be without having someone yelling at your troops and leading them to battles?!

Furthermore, each of those three races has its offensive and defensive specialists. It’s not like you are locked into choosing just one playstyle with the race you’ve chosen. But overall, generally speaking, some races are better for defensive play, some for the offensive.

I’m not gonna bore you with the troop ratings/details, at this point details are subject to change, and you can find all of that in the whitepaper anyway.
Here is the general breakdown of the troops you can lead to battle.

1) Yasuda

If you are thinking about defending and letting the enemy kill themselves on your walls then you should try Yasuda. After all, why march to battles when the battles can come to you?
That’s reasonable, if you choose the battlefield you already have an advantage. And sometimes, a slight advantage is all you need to differentiate from the loser attacking you.

So, Yasuda’s are a defensive and very reasonable race. You can see that by the pants they wear (check the image of their hero). Very reasonable indeed.
That’s why I’ve chosen to stick with them.
After all, I’m a reasonable man.

Not all units are available for training from the start, only tier 1 is available in barracks, and the more advanced troops will come later (with additional buildings to unlock them).

Koshiro-hero of Yasuda

Tier 1 troop you can train now:
Spearman, a cheap defensive unit, excels vs cavalry units.

Offensive troops:

  • Samurai (infantry)
  • Black Panther (cavalry)
  • Imperial Charger (cavalry)
  • Catapult (artillery)

Defensive troops:

  • Spearman (infantry)
  • Horse Archer (cavalry)
  • Dragon Lord (cavalry)
  • Battle Ram (artillery)
tier 1 troops of Yasuda

2) Imunabi

Whitepaper states that Imunabi is an ancient civilization, recently awakened from a dormancy state. How’d you feel if you woke up after a few thousand-year sleep? It’s no wonder they are grumpy old cunts.
I don’t care how soft their beds were, you need all the magic you can muster to awake and get up after so long time of snoring. Let alone combat the other races.

They have strong economy and production capabilities, making them a perfect target, but a formidable enemy if given chance to grow.
Furthermore, their army units are strong and well-balanced (offense/defense), but a bit expensive and their training takes time.

So the old grumpy Imunabi will probably look to develop its economy, and avoid fights early on.
Let Yasuda and Gunks fight their battles into oblivion, and Imunabi will swoop up the prize later on. Yup, that sounds like a plan they’ll implore.

Jugadora-hero of Imunabi

Tier 1 troop you can train now:
-Apprentice, tier 1 unit. Almost equally good in attack and defense.

Offensive troops:

  • Pyromancer (infantry)
  • Blazing Chariots (cavalry)
  • Pheonix Archmage (cavalry)

Defensive troops:

  • Giant Scarab (cavalry)

Equally good in attack/defense ratings troops:

  • Apprentice (infantry)
  • Earthshaker (infantry)
  • Burning Ram (artillery)
  • Beam Cannon (artillery)
tier 1 troops of Imunabi

3) Gunks

The Gunks are considered to be the most aggressive of all three playable factions. The most honorable thing for them is the glory of dying in battle.
Or so misinformed hack of the author, low paid to write a half-ass article on them, want us to believe.
We all know that the glory does not lie in dying in battle, but rather in making your enemies die instead!
You delay going back to mud as long as you can, instead you extend drinking, fornicating, and pillaging the most you can.
That’s what the wise warrior would do, and Gunks despite their brutish looks are no fools.
It seems to me they have the most fun of all three races, and that’s why I almost chose them as my first pick.

They have the cheapest and quickest training troops, and they are born for pillaging. On the downside, their defensive ratings are not so great.

Zarvan-hero of Gunks

Tier 1 troop you can train now:
-Raider, a cheap, tier 1 unit. Solid attack and resource-carrying ratings.

Offensive troops:

  • Raider (infantry)
  • Berserker (infantry)
  • Executioner (infantry)
  • Doom Bringer (cavalry)
  • Trebuchet (artillery)

Defensive troops:

  • Axe Thrower (infantry)
  • Hog Rider (cavalry)

Equally good in attack/defense ratings troops:

  • Behemoth (artillery)
tier 1 troops of Gunks

How To Play?

The first thing you should do with every new project is to check its discord, as a part of your DYOR. Kingdom clash discord is not only a source of numerous useful information but a place where you can feel the pulse of the project.

You’ll need one land plot, which automatically has your town hall, and some mining buildings (max 3 farms, 2 stone quarries, 2 gold mines, and 2 lumber camps).
This is the economy part, of course, for the army you’ll need barracks, and later on the rest of the army/tech branch.

The land plot is the most important building, as each rarity higher gets you +1 simultaneous building/upgrade option (legendary has up to 4).
Furthermore, a town hall you get with a land plot generates KCT, a native token of the Kingdom Clash, which you are free to trade on Alcor or use for blending.
Higher the rarity, and the level of the town hall (yes, you can upgrade it), the more KCT it passively generates.

Ingame image

I’d recommend filling all slots with the maximum allowed mining buildings, with the highest possible rarity you can get your hands on. This will ensure a healthy economy and a solid foundation for your army-building efforts.

You may notice that I’ve outlined in red food for the garrison, that’s the Upkeep storage, a place you have to transfer a few of your food supplies for the army. It’s easy to miss, and I spend some time looking for it. Something that the devs could maybe improve on in the future. That’s the useful information testedgoods.com is known for. 😉

Mining buildings should be locked in their positions (you can’t put a farm in the mountains), but military and other structures you are free to place where you wish (except on the town hall or mining slots).

The only available military building at this time is the barracks, you can currently train t1 troops in there, and the rest should follow soon.

Blending

It’s an NFT game, of course, there is blending! The way it works, you need three mining NFT-s of the same rarity staked in-game, and you can blend it to a higher rarity. In Kingdom Clash this gets more complicated, as your entering NFT-s can have different levels, and the blended NFT is a sum of those levels divided by 3 and rounded to a whole number.
Here’s an example of this.

Land plot blending works a bit differently, and you need only 1 land plot + a specified amount of the KCT token, to blend a higher rarity NFT of the same level.

As you can see from the above picture, Land Plot NFT blending can be quite steep for the legendary NFT.
From today’s prices, 25k KCT-s is roughly 4000 WAX. As there are NONE legendary Land Plots listed for sale, and they are generating the before-mentioned KCT token, it might be worth it.

Guilds

The Guilds aspect in Kingdom Clash will be something of the utmost importance. In these kinds of strategy games, you can’t hope for much if you are alone.
Even the strongest player will fall against the power of many. Not to mention that the end-game winner of season 1 will be a guild. That guild will share the formidable WAX reward between its players.
You can start to see the importance of choosing the right group of people to fight along with.

As the in-game guild system is not live yet, you may miss the fact that there are already a few guilds. I’m a part of one which I hope it’ll go all the way.
Given the fact that our leader (hi Kenney) is a very wise, experienced veteran of many Travian clashes, I’m already looking for ways to spend the prize money we’ll surely get in the future.

Official guild support is not live yet, but you can ask about joining a guild on the Kingdom Clash discord or ask me about it on the testedgoods discord.

Interview with the team

I’ve asked a founder – bogdaniosif a few questions about the project (if you visit their discord, you’ll find him online each day, willing to help), and he was kind enough to answer them promptly.

1. Can you briefly introduce yourself, which is your role in the Kingdom Clash?

bogdaniosif:
First of all, let me thank you for this opportunity. I’m Bogdan, and I’m proud to say that I’m one of the Kingdom Clash founders, and I’ve been in Crypto for 3+ years and almost two years into NFTs.

2. What inspired you to create this type of game?

bogdaniosif:
It all started in 2006 when my big brother came home with our first PC, and I learned about video games and the Internet. The whole concept of video games fascinated me completely. A few years later, my best friend, and now Kingdom Clash partner, Artep, introduced me to a browser game named Travian. It was one of those games I played for years. By playing the game, I’ve met many people, some of whom are part of the Kingdom Clash team today.
So a few years later, I found out about Crypto and, later on, NFTs. I was collecting, trading, and enjoying some of the early games in NFT technology. I’ve seen too many projects die and so many rugs pull, which is one of the main reasons I started this project.

In the 2021 summer, I was trying to find people interested in joining me. Most of them were skeptical and couldn’t see the potential. It took me like 4-5 months to prove that I’m not just a dreamer. I was working by myself on the game idea, and suddenly, they joined this journey.
After being only me in the project, the team increased to 10 members a month, and most of us played Travian as kids. So yeah, Travian/Tribe Wars/Ikariam (and other similar browser games) was our inspiration.

3. You’ve mentioned that you are aiming for KCT to be listed on CMC and possibly on exchanges, for that to happen KCT needs more volume on the Alcor. What is your plan, when do you see numbers up and listings happening?

bogdaniosif:
Listing the KCT on CoinMarketCap is just the beginning. As you said, one of the main reasons the token is still ‘untracked listing’ is that the KCT Volume is lower than 1000$/day, but unfortunately, this is not the only reason. The CMC team does not ‘fully track’ WAX Tokens, only some of them, like TLM(Alien Worlds)/ FWW(Famers World Wood), but we’ve found what we need to get that ‘tracked listing.’
We’re trying to list the KCT on different exchanges, but we didn’t expect it to be so complicated and expensive. At this moment, we’re focusing on bringing more players into the game; by doing that, we are confident that the KCT volume will go up, and a possible CMC ‘tracked listing’ will bring more and more people into the project.
I’m seeing KCT listed on CMC and other exchanges by the end of the year.

4. Which part of your work do you like the most?

bogdaniosif:
Being in WAX Space for two years and joining so many projects allowed me to see how community managers handle their discord servers, community, and projects. However, my most significant role and what I love the most by working on this project is being a community manager.
I love spending time in our general chat with our fantastic community (I’m more than proud that Kingdom Clash has one of the best communities in WAX space), maybe it’s not the biggest, but it’s a healthy one.
Besides the community manager role, I love working on the game and giving feedback to our dev team, and I also take care of the marketing.

5. Have satisfied are you with the design of the game?

bogdaniosif:
When it comes to graphics, I think we have one of the best game graphics, at least on WAX. Till now, I’m delighted with the game design. Looking at the first sneak peek we gave into our Discord, you’ll see some significant improvements.

6. If you had this knowledge, and you are starting the Kingdom Clash now, what would you do differently?

bogdaniosif:
Oh… I would do so many things differently if I had to start a new collection right now, starting with rarities. I know the WAX community loves the system with rarities and packs, but this is one of the most common mistakes all collections make. I’m not talking about the collections that have only collectible NFTs. I’m talking about the collections trying to develop a p2e game.
I’d change a lot of things.

7. Where do you see KC in 6 months?

bogdaniosif:
In 6 months, we expect a full release for Kingdom Clash. Also, when it comes to blockchain, we might see the game going on an ETH Layer 2 platform in six months. However, that doesn’t mean we will leave the WAX Blockchain.

8. How important is the community to you regarding development? I’m not talking about the numbers, but about the community’s opinion on various aspects of the game.

bogdaniosif:
For us, this is one of the essential things in our project. Kingdom Clash is a project that listens carefully to the community’s recommendations. Also, in the last months, we have demonstrated that we do everything to satisfy our community.

9. Anything else you’d like to say?

bogdaniosif:
Yeah, I’d like to add a shoutout to my entire team and our lovely community! All this progress wouldn’t be possible without them!

Many thanks to bogdaniosif for taking the time to answer my questions during this busy time for the KC project. There is a lot of work in front of the team in the next few days especially. Releasing the major component like the PvE system is huge! Will you get in on time to actively participate in season 1?

Conclusion – Kingdom Clash

Update, May 2023

Developers started running out of funds and pulled a few moves that antagonized the community. In return, the community revolted and stopped buying NFTs which lead to the team abandoning the project (officially – they are looking the other means to fund it).
I WOULD NOT ADVISE ANYONE TO ENTER AT THIS POINT!

I’m excited about the upcoming PvE aspect of the game, finally, something I can do with my troops! PvE should be released in only a few days from the moment I’m writing this. How will that play out?
Will I defend my realm, or will I send my troops to AI-controlled encampments on the map? I’ll have to put my thinking hat on, calculate the rewards vs possible losses, and act accordingly.
This is going to be fun!

The Kingdom Clash has the potential of securing its rightful position among the greatest games of old, or it could bog down in endless development mire.
Will the crypto go up or down, will the team keep developing Kingdom Clash or will life take them on a different path? Who knows?
There are always two sides to every coin.

Kingdom Clash pros:

  • An NFT strategy, something I’ve dearly missed on the WAX space
  • Substantial prize fund
  • The excitement of building the economy, armies, a hero, and incoming/outcoming attacks could make me lose sleep
  • The community is active in steering this project in the right direction, and the team is willing to listen
  • Continuous and on-time development so far

Kingdom Clash cons:

  • My marriage, beauty sleep, and social status may be in danger with this one
  • With every small project like this, there’s not a huge budget behind it.
Development has to be on point, and the current WAX chain as the entire crypto state is less than ideal.
    This could affect future sales.

My humble opinion is that Kingdom Clash is just getting started. There will never be a lack of interest in these kinds of games in general. And I’m betting that Kingdom Clash will win the hearts and minds of future would-be-generals.

  1. The best review about the project so far, and taking about the Kingdom Clash, I have been involved or say invested in this game from the initial phase when it was not whitelisted. They made the pass sale, I was lucky and got a chance to grab the pass, after that it took a bit longer to get the WL of the project but I was not scared to lose the money because I had hoped someday we would get WL and we will rise again, and finally, here we are Mooning and Mooning day by day. I hope bogdaniosif’s wish of listing KCT to a major exchange will be fulfilled and we will lead the WAX blockchain.

  2. I’ve not heard about Kingdom Clash before. But this review peaked my interest for the game.
My friend recommend I should read it, and I’m glad I’ve listened.
As I’m already experienced it games like this one, IF given the opportunity, I know I can make it far!

  3. the review of the project was done in great detail, without unnecessary words, only on the case and on the main issue of the project. now I myself want to invest in the project and try to participate in the development of the project, since the author inspired me with his review to plunge into the atmosphere of the Middle Ages with different races of people and animals again. Thanks for the review! You’re the best, keep up the good work!

  4. Very good article! I think as soon as the PVE mode comes out, you should talk about the advantages and disadvantages of the types of races in the game. And also talk about the guilds in the game and conduct interviews with their heads.

    • That’s an excellent suggestion, but I have other things to tend to at this point.
Maybe a bit later, after we’ll have more materials to write about.
      Thank you for the input.

  5. I’ve been a fan of browser-based strategy games since Tribal Wars was so popular. As soon as I saw Kingdom Clash – I realized that this is the game that I will play on WAX.io with pleasure, because this is the game that I loved as a child! I’m in the project since the early days, have already managed to build a village and build up military power. Today I’m testing PVE and waiting for the PVP. Chose the race “Yasuda” and so far I can not highlight the pluses, because for this to play a lot of battles!

  6. Good guide, thanks for the work done! Even though it’s not my first day playing Kingdom Clash, this information has helped me better understand the game and rethink my city development strategy! Project admins are the best admins of all the projects on wax and I believe that their game will soon be on the top of the atomic hub!
